From giving back to getting informed, there are a few events coming up that you definitely want to have on your radar.
First up, DJ Brei is bringing her Community Day back for year TWO!
DJ Brei’s Second Annual Community Day is happening Saturday, September 19 from 11:30 AM to 3 PM at the Delavan Grider Community Center. This is a day centered around community, family and making sure our young people have what they need.
There will be food, music, activities and giveaways, plus free school supplies, produce and food while supplies last. It’s a great opportunity to bring the kids out, have some fun and support an event that is pouring directly back into the community.
Also happening Saturday is the Ellicott District Stakeholders Meeting, hosted by Buffalo Common Council Majority Leader Leah M. Halton-Pope.
The meeting takes place September 19 from 10 AM to noon at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, 665 Elm Street, in the Zebro Room. Residents can expect community updates, guest speakers, informative conversations, networking and a complimentary breakfast.
One important note: the meeting is in a different room this month, so make sure you’re heading to the Zebro Room.
Then on Tuesday, September 22, the conversation turns to something we don’t talk about enough: trust between our communities and the people conducting research in them.
The University at Buffalo’s Community Health Equity Research Institute is hosting “Community Trust & Research: A Community Conversation, Building Bridges Between Communities and Researchers.”
The event will explore trust, relationships and the ways communities engage with research. The panel includes Kelly Marie Wofford, Malika Lee, Shannon Waddell-Collins and Stan Martin, bringing together community voices and leaders for an important discussion.
The conversation happens September 22 from 5 to 6:30 PM at the Northland Workforce Training Center, 683 Northland Avenue.
