Bitcoin climbed above $84,000 as regulatory developments boosted crypto sentiment, including an SEC exemption for tokenized-stock trading and CFTC proposals. Ethereum and major altcoins also gained, while stronger ETF inflows, a short squeeze and improved market liquidity supported the rebound.

Bitcoin trades above the $84,000 mark on Monday supported by regulatory developments, including an SEC exemption for tokenized-stock trading and new CFTC crypto proposals sent for White House review, improving market sentiment. The cryptocurrency was trading at $84,949 mark.

In the past 24 hours, Bitcoin was up 5.56% and Ethereum was up 5.95%. Among the major altcoins, BNB, XRP, Solana, Tron, Hyperliquid, Dogecoin, Cardano gained upto 10.18%.

Prateek Gupta, Head of Business, Mudrex said the move was supported by regulatory developments, including an SEC exemption for tokenized-stock trading and new CFTC crypto proposals sent for White House review, improving market sentiment.

Gupta further said a sharp swing in oil prices also helped trigger a short squeeze. Meanwhile, spot Bitcoin ETFs returned to net positive weekly inflows, led by a $433 million inflow on Friday.

The global

crypto market capitalisation was up 4.83% to $2.88 trillion, according to the data on Coinmarket cap. With the latest jump, Bitcoin closed the weekly trade above its 50-week moving average for the first time in 45 weeks, said CoinDCX Research Team

Over the last week, Bitcoin and Ethereum were up 8.95% and 8.43% respectively. Among the major altcoins, BNB, XRP, Solana, Hyperliquid, Dogecoin, and Cardano gained upto 20.4% whereas Tron was down 1.18%.

Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder & CEO, Pi42 said The SEC’s new pathway for tokenized U.S. stocks brings traditional financial assets further onto blockchain rails. This is a meaningful shift because tokenization is moving from a conceptual use case toward an increasingly regulated market structure, potentially bringing more institutional activity and liquidity into blockchain based markets.

Market perspective

CoinSwitch Markets Desk: Crypto markets staged a recovery over the past week, with Bitcoin climbing 5% to reclaim the $81K level after briefly falling below $75K. The broader market capitalization also recovered above $2.8 trillion, approaching $2.9 trillion during the rally.

Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst, Delta Exchange: Crypto markets have shown notable resilience despite a difficult macro and policy backdrop, with Bitcoin holding above $81,000 and Ether near $2,660 after a sharp recovery from last week’s lows.

Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus: Bitcoin is trading around $81,127 after recovering above the $80,000 level. The rebound follows last week’s sharp correction after the Federal Reserve raised rates by 25 basis points. ETF flows have also improved. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded combined inflows of $484.1 million on September 17-18, after heavy outflows earlier in the week.

Nischal Shetty, Founder, WazirX: Bitcoin surged past the $80,000 threshold following the September 2026 FOMC meeting because the 25-basis-point rate hike to a 3.75%-4.00% target range had already been fully priced into the market. Rather than triggering a sell-off, the conclusion of the highly anticipated Federal Reserve meeting removed macro uncertainty, sparking a relief rally driven by institutional demand.
