Delhi-Ajmer travel time could come down drastically with the Beawar-Bharatpur Greenfield Expressway. The new expressway could significantly change road connectivity across Rajasthan, with the proposed corridor expected to bring Delhi-Ajmer travel time down to around 4.5 to 5 hours.
Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway
There is an important update to the project’s status.
Recent Rajasthan government records show that the project is moving through the DPR, survey and environmental-clearance processes, rather than being ready for construction. A July 2026 public hearing was held for the proposed Beawar-Bharatpur greenfield expressway, while another hearing covered consultancy work for preparation of its DPR.
RSRDC has also approved funding to support land acquisition for the project. The project’s tentative length is 342 km, with an indicative civil cost of about Rs 8,339 crore.
What is the route?
The broader planned corridor runs from NH-58 near Beawar to NH-21 near Bharatpur.
The proposed route is associated with areas including Gulabpura, Kekri, Todaraisingh, Uniara, Tonk and Niwai, before reaching the Bharatpur side.
Recent reports have also described a connection towards the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway around the Lalsot/Dausa region, which is central to the expected Delhi-NCR connectivity benefits.
However, the exact alignment should not yet be treated as final for every village or property because surveys and approvals are still progressing.
Delhi to Ajmer could take around 5 hours
Once the required sections are completed and connected, reports estimate that Delhi-Ajmer travel could take around 4.5 to 5 hours, compared with roughly 7-8 hours currently.
The proposed corridor is also expected to reduce Delhi-Bharatpur travel to around 2.5-3 hours, while Beawar-Bharatpur could fall to roughly 3-3.5 hours. These are projected journey times, not guaranteed timings.
Popular Rajasthan destinations on the corridor
The project is significant because it would improve access between several parts of Rajasthan rather than simply shortening one city-to-city journey.
Key locations associated with the proposed corridor include Beawar, Gulabpura, Kekri, Todaraisingh, Uniara, Tonk, Niwai and Bharatpur. The wider network would also improve links towards Jaipur, Dausa, Ajmer and Delhi-NCR.
When will the expressway open?
There is no confirmed opening date yet.
The project still requires detailed alignment work, land acquisition, approvals and construction. Rajasthan’s official records show the project is progressing through these preparatory stages, so claims that the new road is already under full-scale construction would be premature.
